Written Scheme of Examination (WSE)

By providing a WSE, we ensure that all pressure systems (e.g. regulators, manifolds, cylinders, valves) are safe, compliant, and operating within legal and engineering standards. Required under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR 2000) in the UK.

Components Covered

  • High-pressure gas cylinders (O₂, CO₂, N₂, etc.)

  • Regulators & pressure relief devices

  • Distribution manifolds

  • Pipework and joints

  • Isolation and non-return valves

  • Monitoring instrumentation (pressure gauges, alarms)

Examination Schedule

Procedure

  1. Visual Inspection – Check for wear, corrosion, damage, labelling.

  2. Functional Testing – Ensure components open/close, maintain pressure.

  3. Leak Detection – Use helium/nitrogen and leak detection fluid.

  4. Calibration – Verify gauges using certified instruments.

  5. Documentation – All findings recorded and certified.

  6. Recommendations – List any required repairs or replacements.

Certification

  • Issued by a fully accredited, qualified and Competent Person.

  • Certificate valid for the duration specified in the scheme (typically 6–12 months).

  • Stored for compliance audits or insurance requirements.
